Clarification Statement from the Yemeni Association for Sports Media Regarding the Leak of CAS Documents
On Friday evening, the regular meeting of the General Assembly of the Yemeni Association for Sport Media was held via video conference, with wide participation from members across different governorates, to discuss the strategic program framework, future work plans, and funding for activities in 2026.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Saleh Hameed, Chairman of the Board, emphasized the Association’s commitment since its founding to building an effective professional entity that keeps pace with developments in modern sports media. He highlighted the focus on training, capacity building, and enhancing staff competencies, stressing that the Association’s approach relies on institutional work and partnership with all members, reinforcing independence and decision-making through the General Assembly.
Bashir Sinan, Executive Director, explained that the Association operates within a comprehensive strategic framework aimed at improving program implementation mechanisms, developing funding tools, enhancing marketing aspects, and establishing new partnerships to ensure sustainability. He noted that despite limited resources, the Board has achieved significant progress in international relations and in representing Yemeni sports media abroad.
The leadership also affirmed its commitment to providing logistical support for members covering international tournaments, leveraging relationships with organizing bodies to facilitate visas and media accreditations, while continuing to expand opportunities to strengthen Yemen’s presence on international platforms.
Khalid Al-Nawari, Secretary-General, presented a report on completed activities, including training courses and programs that have shifted media work from traditional journalism to digital platforms. He emphasized that the Association achieved in a short period what had not been accomplished in decades in terms of professional training, international representation, and winning awards.
Abdulwahid Al-Obli, financial auditor, praised the Association’s programs over the past years and highlighted the importance of supporting these activities with annual financial reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), stressing the need to engage international donors to fund future projects and programs.
Randa Al-Ziyadi, Board Member, addressed challenges faced by women in sports media coverage inside and outside Yemen, emphasizing the need for fair representation, providing a safe and encouraging environment for female sports journalists, and expanding their participation in training programs and events locally and internationally.
The meeting also included constructive interventions from members, focusing on improving work mechanisms, enhancing the role of the women’s sector, intensifying training programs, and strengthening marketing and planning using scientific methodologies, all contributing to increased institutional efficiency and better utilization of qualified human resources in all areas of sports media.
