Clarification Statement from the Yemeni Association for Sports Media Regarding the Leak of CAS Documents
The Yemeni Association for Sports Media through its legal representative, Lawyer Ralph Charbel, issued a clarification statement concerning the illegal leak of documents from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), related to the appeal submitted by the Association against the International Sports Press Union.
The statement emphasized that publishing these documents on social media platforms constitutes a clear violation of Article 43 of the CAS Procedural Rules, which imposes strict confidentiality on all documents and proceedings related to the case. The statement highlighted that respecting legal confidentiality is a fundamental principle to ensure the integrity of judicial processes and protect the rights of all parties involved.
Background:
The case dates back to 2016, when the Association was prohibited from participating in the activities of the International Sports Press Union unless it paid the annual membership fees, which were duly documented. In 2025, nine other countries were allowed to participate, and voting took place without requiring cards or fees for their representatives, which the Association considered a selective practice potentially affecting its rights outside the Union’s statutes. Accordingly, the Association filed an official complaint with CAS, seeking to ensure fairness and equality in the application of the rules.
Lawyer Ralph Charbel explained that the statement serves as an official step to uphold the law and maintain the confidentiality of the proceedings, rather than responding directly on social media platforms. He stressed the Association’s commitment to taking all legal measures necessary to ensure compliance with and enforcement of Article 43 of the CAS Procedural Rules.
The statement also affirmed that the Association remains committed to all legal procedures to protect its rights under the statutes and international laws, and that any unauthorized leak or publication of documents will not affect its right to seek justice.
