Fakri Al-Hubaishi Draws the Curtain on 18 Glorious Years

 Shabab Ibb Club has announced preparations to host a testimonial and farewell event for former national team and club star Fakri Al-Hubaishi, in honor of his long and illustrious football career that spanned 18 years and cemented his place among Yemen's top scorers.

In a previous interview, Al-Hubaishi confirmed his final decision to retire from football, stating:
"Eighteen years with the only beloved I ever knew — I left her not by choice, but because of circumstances."

Al-Hubaishi is considered one of the most prolific strikers in the history of Shabab Ibb and Yemeni football. He won the domestic league’s top scorer title twice (2003 and 2006), and in 2006, he earned the prestigious "Top Arab Scorer" title with 26 goals. He also represented the Yemeni national team in over 20 international matches, scoring 7 goals and participating in World Cup, Gulf Cup, and Asian Cup qualifiers.


Thanks to his vision and attacking intelligence, Al-Hubaishi established himself as a standout forward and a core pillar of Yemen’s national team during a highly competitive era. He contributed to several memorable performances despite difficult conditions.

Reflecting on one of the greatest disappointments of his career, Al-Hubaishi expressed regret over missing out on an international move, despite receiving an official offer from a Bahraini club. The deal fell through due to opposition from Shabab Ibb’s management at the time.
"I fulfilled 90% of my ambitions — playing for the national team, winning titles, becoming top scorer — but playing abroad remained the unfulfilled dream," he said.

Al-Hubaishi was far from a passing striker — he left a legacy of goals and unforgettable moments. As he proudly put it:
"I’m proud of being the league’s top scorer twice, of being Shabab Ibb’s all-time leading scorer, and of clinching the title of Arab top scorer in 2006."

Domestically, he also played for Al-Saqr, Al-Ahli Taiz, and Al-Ittihad, leaving a clear impact at every stop — a testament to his consistent level and effectiveness across competitions.

The organizing committee — composed of sports and administrative figures — plans to hold the farewell event in Ibb city soon, in a tribute befitting the "Fox of the Attack," as fans affectionately call him. The festival will mark the closing chapter of a career that shaped memories, stirred hearts, and engraved his name in the history of Yemeni football.
