Wehda Sana'a and Shaab Ibb |
Shaab Ibb and Wehda Sana 'a teams meet in a fateful side match on Thursday afternoon at the 22 May Club Stadium in the capital Sana' a in the back stage of the Yemen Football League.
The two teams play in Group II matches, which also include Fhman Abyan, Shab Hadramawt, Salam Al Qarfa and Yarmok from Sana 'a.
This match is of great importance to both sides. The Wehda Club leads the group by 15 points, equal to the Shab Hadramawt, but outscored by goals, and needs to win the first place card and qualify for the Golden Box without waiting for the final round.
In contrast, the Shaab seek to win the match in any way and nothing else, to avoid the spectre of the relegation they survived in the 2022/2021 season, where they occupy the penultimate position in the group with eight points and any stumbling point they may enter into complex calculations with the Salam of Al Qarfa with which the number of points is equal.
The game of expectations and season numbers seems in favour of the Wehda, which will play comfortably, though not without pressure, but less than its rival, as it is just around the corner and enjoys strength in attack and defence.
On the other hand, the Shaab suffer from the problem of defence, which made them the worst in the league after receiving 13 goals, as well as their lack of a sniper attacker and both points were elements of their strength in the past.
Given the aspirations and calculations of each team, it is expected that the game will be open except for the starting reservation that the Shaab may resort to to to avoid conceding an early goal as much as they have suffered, but in the event that this scenario occurs despite the presumed reservation, the offensive side will be overshadowed in the hope of deciding and controlling the game accordingly.
The match is important not only in terms of current calculations, but also extends to historical confrontations between the two clubs, which are among the best in the country; They all have won together seven titles since the launching of the Unified League in 1990, with four for the Wehda, the last being a 2002/2001 season, compared with three for the Shaab, the last in the 2012/2011 season.
Information on 18 previous matches indicates that the nicknamed "stubborn" The Shaab won six matches and scored 19 goals, while the Wehda known as the "leader" won four games and scored 18 goals, drawing eight.
Will today's match take sides in the present or in history? The obvious answer is that they are more important to both in the present given the results that have brought them into accurate qualification and downward calculations.
